We all know that sometimes life can feel ruff. But with Spring in the air, it’s time to pack your bags and plan some quality time with your furry best friend. For a tail-waggingly good time, head out into nature and enjoy a glamping trip this Spring Break. This pawsitively delightful vacation option provides a healthy dose of adventure without sacrificing the comforts of home.

What is glamping? And, can I take my dog?

If you are not the kind that likes to get your paws dirty but you still want to be the best pawrent for your fur baby, glamping is for you!  If you are not familiar with the concept, glamping is a glamorous form of camping that allows you to enjoy the great outdoors without sacrificing the comforts of your home. Think luxury tents, cozy cabins, and all the amenities you could ever need. Think Coachella without the music. And, since this form of accommodation allows you to be in the heart of nature, it is a popular choice among dog owners.

Glamping with dogs is a fun and budget-friendly way to spend Spring Break

First things first, paws and prepare

As a pawrent, you know that life is never just a walk in the park. A little (or a lot) of forward planning is required to make any adventure a success. Before you hit the road, spend a good amount of time doing your research in order to find a pawsome dog-friendly campsite that meets your needs. From cozy cabins to luxurious yurts, there are plenty of options to choose from that cater to both you and your four-legged companion.

Once you've found your home away from home, it's time to get packing. Since glamping is not about ruff-ing it, don’t forget to pack your dog’s Pawd, their bed and plenty of food, water, and treats for your pup to help them feel at home. Don’t forget the essentials for you too, especially sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, food and water and a camera to capture all the paw-some memories you'll make with your furry friend. It is also worth checking to see if your dog’s vaccines are up to date and if they require any additional flea or tick treatment

    Wagging tail, happy trails

Since each campsite is different, it is important to brush up on the rules and regulations of your chosen destination upon arrival. For example, some campsites may require dogs to be leashed at all times or have specific areas designated for pet waste disposal. Ensure that your dog is the “top dog” and a happy camper by sticking to these rules. Yet, glamping is all about having fun with your dog and exploring new places together. Take a hike through the forest, stroll along a scenic trail, or simply relax by the campfire and watch the stars. It doesn’t matter what activities you choose, your dog will be thrilled to be spending so much quality time outdoors with you. There are so many new sights, sounds and smells to discover that it is a real vacation for your dog’s senses.

Glamping with dogs is a wonderful way to spend time in nature

    Fetch, hike, cuddle, and repeat

When you are not busy hiking with your hound or rustling up tasty canine campfire meals, use your free time to bond with your dog. No glamping trip with your dog would be complete without some paw-some games and activities. From fetch to creating your own DIY agility course from tree trunks and rocks, there are endless ways to stimulate your dog and strengthen the bond with your pup. Then, once night falls and temperatures start to drop, there is nothing better than snuggling up together by the fire and creating unforgettable memories.

But, not all pups are happy campers. As a pawrent, it's essential to have an eagle on your dog’s behaviour and well-being. Sudden changes to routine and new environments can prove to be stressful to some pups causing them to become anxious. Give them plenty of love and attention to ease their worries and if you know that the trip could prove stressful, it's always a good idea to consult with your veterinarian or a professional dog trainer before glamping with your dog.

Cozy canine camping under the stars

Nighttime is one of the most important parts of your glamping with dogs itinerary. When darkness falls, make sure your pup has a safe and cozy place for them to lie. This could be their Pawd crate, their favorite pillow or a bundle of blankets to burrow into. Make sure that they are close by to you so that you can enjoy snuggles on demand and share body heat if the temperature drops. There is something about glamping with your dog turns a normal sleepover with your pup into a paw-some way to create lasting memories. Let these moments be a reminder to press paws on the hectic pace of life and savor the simple pleasures of nature and the company of our beloved pets.
